Ravi Shashtri to leave team India after T20 World Cup!

Head coach of team India Ravhi Shashtri has informed cricket board about his planning to leave team after October-November T20 World Cup edition.

According to sources recently team India head coach Ravi Shastri has informed to cricket board to get retire as team India coach after the 2021 T20 world cup. Shashtri’s contract will also end at the end of this year. After the rumor #T20worldcup got trending on Twitter.

Ravi Shashtri first became a director of team India in late 2014 and he served team India as a director till 2016 T20 world cup. After that Anil Kumble took over the team India for one year till 2017 after which Ravi Shashtri appointed as full time head coach of team India. Under Shashtri’s coaching team India won two important away series in Australia and also reached in World Test Championship final in June 2021.

Currently Ravi Shashtri is serving as head coach of team India,  Vikram Rathour as a batting coach, Bharat Arun as bowling coach and R Sridhar as a fielding coach who are all set to travel to UAE after finishing England tour for T20 world cup.

So far India couldn’t win a single ICC trophy under Shashtri’s tenure. In 2019 India lost a semi-final against New Zealand in ODI world cup and in 2021 India lost world test championship final which was also against New Zealand. If this up coming T20 world cup is last tournament for Shashtri than it will be a big responsibility on him to give India at least one ICC trophy.

Talking about Cricket board, according to sources board were also looking for new staff to hire. Rahul Dravid is likely to be a next coach of team India since he was a coach of India team-B during the Sri Lanka tour when senior team India was in England in July 2021. As per the rules of BCCI head coach can serve team up to age of 60 years and Ravi Shashtri is already 59.

Under Shashtri’s coaching, bench strength of team India became very strong which we all witnessed in Australia tour. Since many experts are pointing towards Rahul Dravid to become a next coach of India it will be a very helpful since Dravid already have experience of working with senior team. Under Dravid’s coaching team India won ODI series last month in Sri Lanka.

Asking about experience of Lanka tour, Dravid said “I have enjoyed the experience of working with these guys, it has been great. I have not given any other thoughts to anything else. There are a lot of challenges in doing full-time roles, so I really don’t know.”
