“If there is an increase in Covid cases, please close again”: warns Uddhav Thackeray from Maharashtra

“We are now relaxing restrictions. We need to be more vigilant… If the number of Covid cases increases, then we will have no choice but to shut down again,” Chief Minister Thackeray said in a subsequent Independence Day speech.  Despite the availability of medicines and vaccines, he said there is still a lack of oxygen.

He also paid tribute to the Covid soldiers and citizens who lost their lives in the pandemic. He said that it is not enough to remember history to celebrate Independence Day, adding that now it is necessary to maintain this freedom. Mr. Thackeray paid tribute to Chhatrapati Shivaji, saying that the warrior king had sown the seeds of the struggle for independence from foreign rule.

Maharashtra is the state most severely affected by the new coronavirus. So far, more than 135,000 people have died and nearly 6.4 million cases were reported on Sunday alone, with about 4,800 cases. So far, 5 people (including 1 in Mumbai) have died in the state and up to 66 people are infected with the Delta Plus variant.

Mr.Thackeray said yesterday that the COVID19 pandemic has brought everyone to the “days leading up to independence.” The state is firmly fighting the disease, and vaccination efforts are also accelerating.
