Mumbai: On Tuesday, Union Minister Narayan Rane was arrested by Ratnagiri police for commenting on Uddhav Thackeray, Chief Minister of Maharashtra. This development took place during the conflict and war of words between the Bharatiya Janata Party and the workers of Shiv sena. Pramod Jathar, Narayan Rane’s assistant, claimed that “the arrest warrant was not presented” and the police claimed that they were under “pressure” to arrest the minister.
Shiv Sainiks put forward slogans and banners against the Union Minister, who once said that he “will slap Thackeray because he forgets the Year of Independence in India.” A heavy police car has been built in the city. At the same time, Rane has challenged the Mumbai High Court and the FIR registered against him in parts of Maharashtra.
The BJP leader’s cabinet colleague Ramdas Athawale claimed that Narayan Rane had no intention of insulting CM and would clarify his statement. “Rane simply means that Thackeray did nothing for the development of Maharashtra. He rarely left his Mumbai residence ‘Matoshree’ to understand the problems people face. The minister has no right to occupy a seat, which is Rane did not mean to insult the prime minister.
State Minister and Shiv Sena leader Gulabrao Patil said Rane has lost “balance” and should receive “shock treatment.” “He should be taken to Thane and treated for shock to cure him,” Patil said, apparently referring to the Mental Hospital there. Rane seems to have forgotten that he used to be the prime minister of Maharashtra, “he further said.
