The thing to note here is that previously the teams who were not able to progress to the round of 16 were transferred to Europa League but from this season a new league has been created by Uefa named Europa Conference League in which the teams eliminated from group stage in Champions league are going to be transferred in this new competition where they are going to complete for the new cup.

A new rule change which is going to be implemented from this season in Champions League which is removal of away goals rule from all the Uefa Club Competitions, which was in use since 1965. The Removal of rule means that after the two legs if the aggregate score of both team is same, 30 minutes of extra time will be added and if still the score remains same then then the winner will be decided by the penalty shootout.

Previously, when there was away goals rule, the winner of the tie was decided by most away goals scored by a team and if away goals were also same then the match used to have extra time but now match will directly go on to extra time if the aggregate score is the same.
