New Zealand looses successive T20I against Bangladesh

DHAKA: Bangladesh Mahmadullah knock of 37 helped to post decent total of 141 on slow pitch at Shere Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka.

Brilliant knock of 49 ball 65 not out from New Zealand captain Tom Latham could not stop Bangladesh in clinching the victory in the 2nd T20I with four runs. With this win, Bangladesh take 2-0 lead in the series.

Black Caps required six off last ball of the innings final over. Mustafizur Rehman hard-length delivery outside the off which was hauled away towards deep midwicket by Latham for single brought score to 137-5 for the last ball of the innings.

In the opener of the five match T20I, New Zealand scored the lowest T20I score where Bangladesh won the match with 7 wickets.

New Zealand captain, Latham came into the crease after the openers Rachin Ravindra and Tom Blundwell were removed in succession at 18-2.

Bangladesh all-rounder, Shakib Al Hasan got Young for 22 when both Latham and Will Young were appearing to set the innings.

Nasum Ahmed (1-17) and Mahedi Hasan (2-12) provided the support to Shakib Al Hasan, New Zealand Latham’s presence found difficult to pace the innings.

Nasum’s pretty full delivery got Colin de Grandhomme which was hit straight to Mushfiqur Rahim at deep square leg. New Zealand’s innings further derailed with an extra bounce of Mahedi which baffled Henry Nicholls.

Cole McConchie support helped Latham to go ahead with the New Zealand innings. New Zealand required 20 runs of the final over for victory.

Mustafizur who was struggling with his line and length gave New Zealand five runs when he delivered a beamer.

Latham failed in connecting the last two balls of the innings when eight runs were needed.

Earlier, Bangladesh skipper Mahmadullah knock of 37 not out helped to post total of 141 on slow pitch. Opener Naim score 39-run-a-ball and Liton Das added 33.

New Zealand, slow left arm spinner Rachin Ravindra countered and dismissed Liton and Rahim in successive deliveries.

Cole McConchie got the wicket of Bangladesh all-rounder, Shakib Al Hasan for 12. as New Zealand took upper hand.

But Mahmudullah and Nurul Hasan added 32 in 22 deliveries towards the end of the innings helping the team to past 140 score. Ajaz Patel, Hamish Bennett and McConchie scalped one wicket each. Rachin Ravindra finished with 3-22.
