Pramod Bhagat creates history

TOKYO: Pramod Bhagat defeated Britain’s Daniell Bethell at the Tokyo Paralympics, a men’s singles SL3 badminton event. The first-ever gold medal for India. 

India has won 17 medals at the Tokyo Paralympics – four gold, seven silver, and six bronze medals. Bhagat clinched the game with a comeback and scored 21-14, 21-17 against the Brit. 

India’s Manoj Sarkar bags the bronze medal in the event, giving India back-to-back medals. Pramod remains in the men’s mixed doubles event with his partner Palak Kohli. The event will be for a bronze medal. 

Pramod Bhagat is amongst the best para shutters in the country with four world championship gold medals and a bronze and gold in the 2018 Asian Para Games.  Pramod Bhagat has received the Arjuna award and Biju Patnaik Award for his exemplary performance in sports.
