Biden’s initiative to resolve tensions with China, what it intends to the Quad and India?

President Biden raised the concern of cyber security in the US and discussed China’s involvement in Afghanistan. It is well known that China’s Belt and Road initiative has not been accepted by the US and its doubt over the origin of Coronavirus in Wuhan.

China has put Uighur Muslims in concentration camps while using them as experiments. The South China sea is a hanging bottle for small countries like Malaysia, Brunei, the Philippines, etc., and China claims the territory to be its sovereignty territory.

China has been vocal about any foreign interference in Taiwan and Hong Kong after taking down the security law and putting pressure on Taiwan. China has grown militarily, and the US believes that China’s investment and interest in Afghanistan are for its territory and natural minerals only.

Both the US and China are probably the biggest developed and developing nations, and when these two countries cooperate, the world will benefit.

The US has tried to initiate and look forward while demonstrating strategic courage and political resolve to bring the US-China relations back to the right track, but China has not reciprocated. China’s growing involvement in Asia and Africa is a matter of concern.

According to the US media reports, China is unwilling to initiate any serious or substantial conversations. Both sides have lashed out at each other, from trade tariffs to Wuhan virus transparency. China has not allowed any nation, including the UN, to study the virus’s origin in Wuhan.

The US has responded by its relations with Taiwan. The US has provided strategic planning, arms, and ammunition to Taiwan. The US officials visited Taiwan and ensured peace and support to Taiwan. China called on the US not to interfere in its internal affairs since China claims Taiwan to be its part, just like Hong Kong, South China Sea, Vladivostok in Russia, Arunachal Pradesh in India, part of Nepal, the list goes on and on.

Under the Trump administration, the US imposed tariffs of more than $360 billion on Chinese products, and China imposed a tariff of $110 billion on American products.

The sea is not a property, but China claims 1.3 million square miles of the South China Sea as the disputed maritime region is prominent for trading and global shipping. Countries like Brunei, Malaysia, the Philippines, Vietnam, Japan, etc., have witnessed China’s authority over the sea. The US warship has been sent periodically to the South China Sea to assert the freedom of navigation.

India is a crucial partner of the US, and President Biden believes that India is important in tackling China. The U.S. Secretary of State Lloyd Austin met India’s defense minister Rajnath Singh and discussed defense security and cooperation.

Lloyd Austin called India, increasingly important partner. The bilateral relationship is a stronghold of a free and open Indo-Pacific region.

China’s hegemony over Bhutan and infrastructure work was responded to by the Indian military with a standoff that went for 84 days. Sino-India relations are at the lowest right now. The Chinese military illegal intrusion in the Galwan Valley in 2020 took an ugly turn when 20 Indian soldiers were martyred, while 35 Chinese soldiers were killed, according to US intelligence.

The US has supported India for its stand against illegal intrusion, terrorist activities by Pakistan, or its security. The growing Chinese presence in the Indian Ocean region has led to India moving towards safeguarding its security and interest in the Indian Ocean. The US has a permanent military base in the Indian Ocean, Djibouti, the Middle East, and Diego Garcia Island.

Quad, which includes the US, Japan, India, and Australia, is a strategic dialogue and military exercise called the Malabar games. Under the Trump administration, the US provided India access to the U.S.Satellite data, crucial for missile targets. India and the US have the same goal and share one vision.

The US didn’t sanction India to purchase the S-400 air defense system from Russia but warned against any further military types of equipment. As India’s border and region are unstable, India expected the US to understand the complications. Since India has relations with both the US and Russia and is neutral and not inclined towards any country.

India has played a crucial role not just in the world but in the US-China relation. India shares deep ties with the US and it is one of the largest importers of military equipment from the US, behind Russia. The US sees India as not only a partner but an ally.
