HYDERABAD: In a horrific turn of events, the accused in the rape and murder of a 6-year-old child in Hyderabad’s Saidabad was found dead on the railway tracks near Ghanpur Station in Telangana’s Jangaon district.
The tattoo marks on the accused, Pallakonda Raju, 30, were utilized to identify him. Around 8.40 a.m., Raju was crushed to death by the Konark Express, travelling towards the city. Raju, who has been missing since last Thursday, is wanted by the police and is the subject of a massive search. Telangana Police had launched a chase for him and offered a reward of Rs 10 lakh to anyone who could help them find him.
Telangana DGP M Mahendar Reddy confirmed the suicide on Twitter. KT Rama Rao, the Information Technology Minister, also spoke out about the issue. He tweeted, “Just received word from @TelanganaDGP Garu that the beast who raped the child has been tracked down and found dead on a railway track at station Ghanpur.”
Meanwhile, Home Minister Mohammed Mahmood Ali and Tribal Welfare Minister Satyavathi Rathod paid a visit to the girl’s family and presented them with an ex-gratia cheque for Rs 20 lakh. According to an official release, the ministers also promised support and assistance from the state government and strict legal action against the perpetrator and swift justice.
Even as the opposition Congress, BJP, and others stepped up their criticisms on the TRS administration over the incident, Home Minister Ali on Wednesday instructed police authorities to take attempts to apprehend the culprits as soon as possible and pursue further legal action, according to news agency PTI.
On September 9, the girl was allegedly raped and murdered by a man in a neighboring residence in Saidabad. Residents in the area staged rallies, shouting slogans and demanding justice and the perpetrator’s arrest as soon as possible.
