Jamiat faction: Taliban should respect human rights

The Maulana Mahmood Madani faction of the Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind expressed optimism on Saturday that the Taliban will protect Afghans’ human rights and that Afghanistan will not be used to target any country.

It also issued a statement in which it lent its support to the continuing farmers’ struggle. “Instead of responding to their requests, the current government is attempting to crush the movement.”

“The working committee hopes that the country’s new masters, the ‘Taliban,’ who liberated the country from foreign meddling and presence after decades of struggle and enormous sacrifices, will respect people’s human rights in light of Islamic ideals and the Prophet’s traditions… It also hopes that the new government will create positive relations with other nations, particularly India… and they would not allow any country to use their soil against them,” the statement claimed, adding that India has played a “very crucial role in the creation of the new Afghanistan.”
