CHANDIGARH: While there has been much discussion over the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Punjab not having a chief ministerial face yet, Harpal Singh Cheema, the state’s Leader of Opposition, has stated that an announcement will be made before the 2022 Punjab Assembly Elections.
Cheema, the AAP’s Dirba MLA, appeared to be confident in his victory. He questioned the job done by the Congress during its present reign in an interview with CNN-News18, saying that changing a chief minister at the last minute will not help them win. “The point I’m saying is that he (Charanjeet Channi) was only appointed chief minister for three months. During the run-up to the 2017 assembly elections, they made a lot of big promises. Which of those have they put in place?” During the interview, Cheema stated.
He claimed that the Punjabi people had wanted justice on a number of topics, including the 2015 sacrilege of the Guru Granth Sahib and agriculture laws, but that the Congress had failed to deliver. “Captain saab (Amarinder Singh) had pledged that a job would be provided to every home. This was a complete failure. The land, sand, and booze mafias are on an unstoppable rampage.” He stated, “There was no change on the ground, not even in little modifications.”
People voted for AAP in 2017 because of Arvind Kejriwal’s ideas, according to Cheema, and the party will garner votes again this year.
