NEW DELHI: On Sunday, a Cyclonic storm ‘Gulab’ started hitting the coastal areas of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh. The landfall process started from 6 pm onwards.
IMD at 10:17 with a tweet informed, “The CS GULAB crossed north Andhra Pradesh – south Odisha coasts, about 20 km north of Kalingapatnam during 1930-2030 hrs IST, and lay centered at 2030 hrs IST of 26th Sep over north coastal Andhra Pradesh, likely to move west-northwestwards & weaken into a DD during next 06 hrs.”
Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik, held a virtual meeting on Sunday to gauge the state’s preparedness to combat the Cyclone ‘Gulab’. Patnaik said a total 10 districts in the state will be on the mark by cyclone on Sunday.
42 ODRAF teams, 24 NDRF teams and 103 state fire service Teams have been deployed to combat with cyclone ‘Gulab’.
The government of Odisha has set up helpline numbers and has deployed emergency response teams. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has also assured evacuation of people from vulnerable areas.
Prime Minister Modi also spoke to the Chief Minister of both Odisha and Andhara Pradesh and assured help from centre.
Gulab will be the third Cyclone right after TAUKTAE and YAAS previously hit the country present year.
