NEW DELHI: Indian star-tennis player, Sania Mirza again proves her might as she wins the first title of the season at Ostrava Open. Sania Mirza and her Chinese partner Shuai Zhang won the first title of the 2021 season at Ostrava Open.
The Indo-China second-seeded duo defeated America’s Kaitlyn Christian and New Zealand’s Erin Routliffe in the final clash. The match went only for one hour and four minutes and by the end of it, the dynamic duo defeated the third-seeded team by the sets of 6-3 and 6-2.
The women’s double match took place at CEZ Arena in Ostrava on Sunday. After the win, the ace player now holds a total of 43 WTA titles. A few banters were seen on Twitter between the Indian tennis player and others after Sania registered 43rd WTA title win.
Though the duo won the finals easily, they faced a tough team during their semi-finals. The second-seeded mixed team went against the Japanese duo of Eri Hozumi and Makoto Ninomiya. The fourth-seeded duo gave the winner a hard time in the second set. But Sania and Zhang were able to register their win after winning in straight sets of 6-2 and 7-5.
Before this tournament, Sania ended up as a runner up at the WTA 250 Cleveland event. The duo of Sania and Christina McHale lost to the Japanese duo – Shuko Aoyama and Ena Shibahara. This WTA title is Sania’s second finale of the season.
