Covid-related deaths have surpassed 5 million worldwide as the Delta variant spreads across the globe

NEW DELHI: As per the Reuters study, the Covid-19 death toll took over a year to reach 2.5 million, but the next 2.5 million deaths occurred in just 236 days.

The assessment asserts that the global death toll from Covid-19 topped 5 million on Friday, as the Delta version causes an increase in fatalities, primarily among the unvaccinated.

Our World in Data says, more than half of the world has yet to receive at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccination.

According to Reuters study, the Covid-19 death toll took over a year to reach 2.5 million, but the next 2.5 million deaths occurred in just 236 days. On a seven-day average, the United States, Russia, Brazil, Mexico, and India accounted for more than half of all global deaths.

Over the last week, an average of 8,000 deaths were reported every day over the world, or five deaths per minute.
