Banjara Market: Gurugram’s famous market demolished

GURUGRAM: Around 250 shops and hutments of Banjara Market were demolished on Tuesday. The demolition took place by the enforcement team of the Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP).

According to the official statement by HSVP, the Banjara Market, in which shops sold furniture and traditional handicrafts, came up illegally fifteen years ago on the land which was owned by the authority. Even after constant reminders and notices, the shopkeepers did not wrap their shops, and hence the demolition took place.

With the demolition, around 80% of the 25-acre land of HSVP was cleared. The officials of HSVP had further said that this clearance was done in order to build a college, a bus stand, and group housing societies.

At the same time, a part of the land was allotted to the Income Tax department for the construction of official accommodations.
