NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Thursday, 07 October, directed the central government to take necessary steps to allow girls to take the entrance exam for Rashtriya Indian Military College (RIMC) and Rashtriya Military Schools (RMS) allowing them to sit in the examination which is to be held on December 18, 2021.
In a earlier order, the bench had directed the government to allow women applicants to sit for the forthcoming exams for the National Defence Academy (NDA).
Following the order of the Supreme Court, the Ministry of Defence has proposed to open the doors for girl students to be admitted in RIMC and RMS.
A bench headed by Justice Kaul asked the government to allow girls to take the entrance exam in instead of waiting till June 2022.
An affidavit filed by the government in the Supreme court said it will take them at least a year to make certain arrangements to admit girl cadets to RIMC and RMS from the academic session of 2022-23.
The Bench, however, was not convinced with the arguments of the Central government and ordered them to take necessary steps so that girl cadets will be allowed to sit in the entrance exam this academic year itself.
