Earthquake hits Ladakh and neighbouring country Myanmar

LADAKH: The Leh district of Ladakh experienced trembling during midnight, which caused a lot of problems for people. Although the magnitude was not high, people had to leave their homes in the middle of the night.

An earthquake of 3.8 magnitude occurred in Leh, Ladakh, as measured on the Richter scale. According to the National Centre for Seismology, The depth of the earthquake was 10km, and the area it hit was 206 km ENE of Leh, Laddakh. There was no harm to life or property, and every life was reportedly safe after the earthquake. The people had to run out of their houses at 12:30 p.m. on Oct 8 when they felt the earth trembling.

India’s neighbour country Myanmar also recorded an earthquake of 5.5 at 11.58 p.m. on Thursday, Oct 7. The epicentre of the quake was 144 km WNW of Myanmar. There are no details about the loss of life and property until further reports.

Earlier on Thursday, Oct 7, a major earthquake of 5.9 magnitudes hit India’s other neighbouring country Pakistan causing the death of 22 people, and around 200 were injured. Later on, the number of injured people rose to 300 with a lot of property damage.

Japan’s capital Tokyo also got hit by an earthquake, injuring more than 30 people and damaging underground water pipes and subways. The quake was centred in Chiba prefecture, east of Tokyo, at a depth of about 80 kilometres.
