NEW DELHI: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh conducted the final breakthrough blast of the Sela Tunnel in Arunachal Pradesh through a video conference and flagged of a 20,000 km long motorcycle expedition of the BRO on Thursday.
He attended the virtual event at the National War Memorial at Delhi. He said that Sela Tunnel is located in West Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh, will play a crucial role in bolstering national security and ensuring socio-economic development of the region.
He stated that Sela Tunnel would be the world’s largest bi-lane tunnel at an altitude of greater than 13,000 toes. The development work of the tunnel is predicted to be over by June 2022.
Rajnath Singh commended the BRO, which is constructing the tunnel, for making significant contribution to the progress of the nation.
“The motorcycle campaign started by BRO from the National War Memorial is a humble tribute to the brave martyrs who sacrificed their lives for this country”, the Defence Minister said.
The expedition over the next 75 days will travel through 26 States and 4 UTs of the country spreading the message of National Integration, Nation Building and Road Safety Awareness.
Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat, Defence Secretary Dr Ajay Kumar, Director General Border Roads Lt General Rajeev Chaudhry and senior civil and military officials of the Ministry of Defence were present on the occasion.
