Farmer union calls for nationwide protests to mark completion of 11 months of farmers’ movement today

NEW DELHI: On Tuesday after the Rail Roko complaint against the Lakhimpur Kheri violence the farmers have started a nationwide protest to mark the completion of 11 months of the farmers movement. On the same day the Samyukt Kisan Morcha have called the pan India protests at district and tehsil headquarter between 11 am to 2 pm.

Rakesh Tikait in a tweet says, “Today 11 months have been completed for the farmers standing on the borders of Delhi. I salute the martyrs of the movement. It is on the basis of these martyrs that today the farmers are standing firmly on the borders.”

SKM have said in an affidavit that “These protests will end with a memorandum addressed to the President of India, which submitted through the district Collector/Magistrates.” The organisation have also said that, during the protests the farmer union will also request the arrest and dismissal of Union Minister of State for the Home affairs Ajay Mishra Teni, in connection with the Lakhimpur Kheri incident. The farmers protest started after the kisan unions held a Rail Roko protest on October 18.

Total 18 people were included with the farmers and a local journalist who died in the violence that broke out in Lakhimpur Kheri after a vehicle belonging to Teni rammed into a group of farmers, Teni’s son Ashish Mishra along with the 12 others have already get arrested in that case. Some local farmers have also blamed Mishra for the violence. In some videos it have been shown that a Thar knocking down the protesters in Lakhimpur Kheri in central Uttar Pradesh.
