Fire in a cracker outlet: Six people dead, more than 10 injured

CHENNAI: A fire broke out in a cracker outlet yesterday night in Sankarapuram, Kallakurichi leading to six deaths and more than ten injured.

A bakery next to the cracker outlet too broke into fire leading to a mishap. The Fire service urged to the place. It took a full night effort for them to extinguish the fire.

Wounded were taken to the Sankarapuram Government hospital for treatment. Villupuram Police were investigating the reason for the accident.

Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K.Stalin condoled for the dead and announced ex gratia of ₹5 lakh for the deceased families and ₹1 lakh for the severely injured from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF).

CM in a tweet says, “I was deeply saddened to learn that five people were killed in a fire at a firecracker shop in Sankarapuram, Kallakurichi district. Rs 5 lakh each for the victims; Rs 1 lakh each for those in intensive care CMRF I have ordered to deliver from the fund.”
