U.S. FDA approves Pfizer’s first COVID -19 jab for children

NEW YORK: The United States, Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved first jab of Pfizer-BioNTech’s COVID -19 vaccines for children aged 5 to 11.

U.S. FDA rolled out vaccine for children.

Pfizer said it will begin shipping pediatric vials of the vaccine on Saturday to pharmacies, pediatricians’
offices and other places where the jabs may be administered.

It is a 10 mg dose for children and is mainly targeted on 28 million children who have returned to schools.
Although Pfizer’s vaccine is linked with myocarditis(rate of heart inflammation) in young men in rare cases, FDA stressed on the benefits outweighing the risk.

Pfizer and BioNTech said their vaccine showed 90.7% efficacy against the coronavirus in a clinical trial of children aged 5 to 11. At present 58% of the United States population is vaccinated.
