Creators may sell their ‘Exclusive Content’ on Instagram through ‘Subscription’

WASHINGTON: Instagram is testing their new ‘Subscription Feature’  which will allow the creators to sell their exclusive content like stories, live videos and other content only to its subscribers under a nominal fee.

Recently the company added in-app purchase options in the US app for offering Instagram Subscriptions feature for the creators and their followers, reports TechCrunch.

Earlier followers on Instagram could only buy Instagram Badges which are visual gifts during the creator’s live stream.

First Instagram added the in-app subscription service to the U.S. App Store listing on November 1 at the price point of $4.99.  Later on in-app purchase of $0.99 was added, according to Sensor Tower, which tracks in-app changes and trends.

The company is also working on ‘Exclusive Stories’ feature. This service will allow only the subscribers to view their creators story as highlights and won’t be accessible by the general public according to the reverse engineer Alessandro Paluzzi.

Paluzzi has also revealed that subscribers would get a special member badge thereby allowing them access to exclusive live videos.

All the features are still in its testing phase and there is no clarity when these subscription services will be available.

While mentioning about the company’s monetization strategy, Head of Instagram Mr. Adam Mosseri referred to commerce like branded content and affiliate marketing, ad revenue share and payment products like badges & tips.
