Strict enforcement of the ban on signups on waterbodies, is to be imposed

CHENNAI: Government of Tamil Nadu to strictly enforce the already prevailing ban, on the registration of land on water bodies, waterways and water catchment regions, the Registration Department has cautioned Sub-Registrars of disciplinary action if they disobey the rules.

After a meeting held by Chief Secretary V. Irai Anbu in the path of the Madras High Court’s direction to the State Government to dismiss encroachments on the Chitlapakkam and Selaiyur tanks and its inflow/outflow waterways in Chengalpattu district.

The Registration Department had also said that no more registration should be permitted on these properties and also on the associated Government wastelands, under any situation.

Accountability will be fixed on the Deputy Inspector General of Registration, District Registrar and Sub-Registrar, and disciplinary action will be carried under conditions of the Tamil Nadu Civil Services Rules, 1973, in the event of any divergence from the rule.

Moreover, the respective officials will also have to face contempt of court proceedings, said the Additional Inspector General of Registrations.
