ASSAM: The Assam cabinet has decided to restructure the state education policy in regard with National Education Policy, by 2023.
The new schooling structure, which concludes in 15 years, has four categories- foundation, preparatory, elementary, and senior secondary, said Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The foundation stage have 5 years till class two, the next three is preparatory, then comes elementory category with six, seven and eight and the final category nine till tweleth called senior secondary.
According to the new National Education Policy (NEP 2020), there will be 5+3+3+4 structure comprising 12 years of schooling and three years of pre-schooling, replacing the old 10+2 structure.
While in states such as Tamil Nadu, where CM M K Stalin said, Education policy of the centre is for elites, where education will be limited in few sections, thus affecting vulnerable groups. Last May, the state ministry of higher education decided not to attend a virtual meeting called by the Union Education Ministry to discuss the NEP, 2020.
