NEW DELHI: The Central Government ration policy scheme has been extended till March of 2022 due to the ongoing Covid-19 crisis. The central government scheme, ‘PM Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana’, which provided 5KG rice, wheat and other food grains is extended, concerning 80 crore beneficiaries.
The scheme began in April 2020 and was supposed to end this month has been extended till next march by the central ministry. The total amount of the scheme is nearly 2.60 lakh crores.
“This is aimed at helping the poor families, in the last 20 months, we have seen both middle class and poor families that suffered both nationally and globally,” said, Information and Broadcasting Minister, Anurag Thakur.
Although the decision has been great news for many, the public distribution system based on the 2011 census did exclude some vulnerable groups, which was highlighted by Al Jazeera in one of its reports dated 06 September 2021.
