Bichu Thirumala; Malayalam lyricist and poet passes away at 80

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The famous Malayalam Lyricist Bichu Thirumala, passed away on Friday, November 26. He was first admitted to a hospital due to breathing issues, later suffered from a heart attack, and was also put in ventilator support. He died at age of 80.

He was born in 1942 and grew as one of the most successful lyricists in Mollywood. He has penned around 3000 film songs and several other devotional songs in his career. Most of his works still stood past the time. He was well known for his use of imagery, ‘Aayiram Kannumayi’ (Nokkethadoorath Kannumnattuand Mizhiyariyathe (Niram) are few among the list. The use of language is noteworthy since its equally accessible to the commoners.

He has worked in the Malayalam film industry, and has also worked with most famous artists such as AR Rahman, Ilaiyaraaja, G Devarajan, V Dakshinamurthy, MS Baburaj, K Raghavan, Ouseppachan, and more, reports Onmanorama.

The Hon’ble Governor Shri Arif Mohammed Khan has marked his heartfelt condolences. Many people, including both politicians and notable celebrities, have conveyed their condolences.
