How countries and individuals can prevent themselves from Omicron varient of Covid-19 and what are its symptoms?

NEW DELHI: Various studies are ongoing to understand the Omicron varient of Covid-19. However, there are ways countries and individuals can protect themselves from the varient.

Enhancing the surveillance and sequencing in order to understand the SARS-CoV-2 varients countries can prevent the infection from spreading. With that coordinating with the international community and performing field investigations and laboratory assessments with the objective of improving the understanding its possible impacts.

For individuals wearing well-fitting masks, keeping hand hygiene, physical distancing, improving ventilation of indoor spaces, avoiding over crowded spaces and getting vaccine could be helpful in preventing them from getting infected.

According to World Health Organization (WHO) there is no evidence that symptoms of Omicron are different to those of other variants. It could be understood that cough, fever and loss of taste or smell are still remains the symptoms.

The varient due to its large number of mutations has been categorised as ‘varient of concern’ from the World Health Organisation (WHO). It was first reported on 24th of November in South Africa that reportedly led to increasing cases in the country.
