Foundation stone for the Major Dhyan Chand Sports University in Meerut will be laid today by Prime Minister Narendra Modi

MEERUT: The foundation stone for “Major Dhyan Chand Sports University” will be laid by the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi on Sunday at 12 PM in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh.

According to a statement made by the Prime Minister’s Office, the institution will be established at a cost of over 700 crore on land that includes the villages of Salawa and Kaili in Meerut’s Sardhana town.

The development of Major Dhyan Chand Sports University in the poll-bound state will be in keeping with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s aim of instilling a sporting culture and constructing world-class sporting infrastructure throughout the country.

Synthetic hockey, football, basketball, volleyball, handball, kabaddi, lawn tennis court, gymnasium hall, synthetic running stadium, swimming pool, multipurpose hall, and a cycling Velodrome will all form part of the sports university’s sophisticated and state-of-the-art sports infrastructure.

It will also house shooting, squash, gymnastics, weightlifting, archery, canoeing, and kayaking facilities, among others, with a capacity to train 1,080 athletes, including 540 women and the same number of men.
