NEW DELHI: At 4:30 pm today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will chair a meeting with Top Officials to review the Covid situation in the country, informed government sources.
The meeting comes on the day India reported an alarming increase in daily new cases; approximately 1.6 lakh instances were registered in the last 24 hours this morning, increasing from 27,553 seven days ago.
PM Modi last held a Covid meeting on December 24, urging officials to remain ‘satark‘ (alert) and ‘saavdhaan‘ (vigilant) as India battles the third wave of infections.
The government has warned that the Omicron strain is three times more infectious than the Delta strain that devastated the country in the second wave.
Since the Omicron strain was originally detected in South Africa in November last year, India has recorded 3,623 cases; the first case was reported on December 2.
